Welcome to Sunningdale. We pride ourselves on being able to provide unparalleled levels of support to each individual boy, thereby ensuring that they make outstanding progress and, most importantly, that they enjoy the journey. We focus on developing six characteristics: courage, resilience, kindness, honesty, self-discipline and zest for life. Nearly all the boys board and they have the opportunity to participate in an astonishing number of different activities and find out what really inspires them. I hope you will find time to come and see what makes Sunningdale so special.
Sunningdale is a small, mainly boarding school of around 110 boys. The unique family atmosphere means that the boys feel happy and secure and as a result are able to achieve their full potential. Our aim is to find each boy’s strengths and give him the opportunity to shine in different areas of school life.
Our academic record speaks for itself, with scholarships gained on a regular basis to senior schools. The structure of our forms means that boys move through the school at their own pace, constantly challenged or supported where necessary.
Three-quarters of the boys play at least one musical instrument; many play two or even three. The chapel choir sings on Sundays and occasionally at old boys’ weddings and there is a pipe band which plays on Sports Day and at other events. As well as other drama productions we produce a musical each year in which every boy appears. The art department puts on a large exhibition every year and often wins awards at senior schools.
We have a good reputation on the sports field and one of the benefits of being a small school is that almost all the boys get to represent the school in a team. This does wonders for their confidence. There is a wide range of activities on offer from judo to juggling, clay pigeons to clay modelling.
The school has a strong boarding ethos and boys can weekly board in their first year. Weekends are packed with activities to keep the boys stimulated and entertained.
