St Andrew’s was founded in 1877 and is situated in a beautiful part of East Sussex on the South Coast two minute walk from the sea.  At the heart of our education, we emphasise values that will last for life: kindness and compassion; honesty and integrity; creativity and resourcefulness; courage and a strong sense of purpose.

Head's Welcome

Life in the 21st century is changing fast. And here at St Andrew’s Prep we recognise the need to equip our young pupils with the minds to tackle modern life.

We value childhood as the most important stage in one’s life; a time where social development through friendship and play is as important as academic development within the classroom. We passionately believe that prep school education is about opening doors for young minds and, whilst maintaining high academic standards, we strive to ensure that each pupil has as many doors as possible from which to choose.

We feel that this is an exceptional school; an environment which upholds the finest prep school traditions but also one which is forward thinking in preparing children for life in the 21st century. We seek to ensure that all pupils are equipped with the essential qualities of kindness and compassion and that when each child leaves he or she is skilled and confident to perform in many different arenas.

Please take a look at our website for a glimpse of the education, opportunities and challenges that the school can offer your child. Please do explore it thoroughly and I hope it will whet the appetite for a visit during which, I’m sure, you’ll gain a real sense of the energy, the happiness and the engagement in learning of our children. I’m sure too you will see why we are so proud of its location, the heritage, facilities and staff of the school, but most of all, the children who define us and are the school’s heartbeat.

I very much look forward to meeting you and your children at St Andrew’s.

Gareth Jones

For many pupils and staff school is home for much of the year and this creates a powerful feeling of community. Above all it is the potential and character of each individual that we seek to nurture. The confidence, happiness and fulfilment of every child is our absolute priority.

A St Andrew’s education is of lifelong value. Our records show that a child who stays with us until the age of thirteen, and works diligently, can expect to move on to one of the country’s most highly regarded schools such as Eastbourne College, Benenden, Brighton College, Lancing, Tonbridge, Sevenoaks, Harrow or Cheltenham Ladies’ College. We feed a broad range of senior schools and the Headmaster will work closely with the parents and agent to help make the right choice for each child.

To keep pace with a changing and growing school, facilities and developments over the years have included a purpose-built pre-prep, a nursery, a 4 lane 20m indoor pool, a music school, an art and DT block, various teaching blocks, a pavilion, a rifle range, a library and an ICT suite. The most recent developments are the purpose-built Sports Hall, which opened in September 2016 and the refurbishment of our pavilion building.
