Oakham is well known and loved for being a friendly and highly successful school. Founded in 1584, its uniquely structured student population of 50:50 boarders and day pupils and 50:50 girls and boys creates a genuinely inclusive school community. Set in the heart of safe, rural England close to Rutland Water, Oakham values learning and relationships, preparing pupils for life.
Oakham is a welcoming community that values learning and human relationships, which are the bedrock of a successful and happy life. Pupils are encouraged to take part and play their part, so they become committed and fulfilled members of their communities hereafter. I am proud to be the Headmaster of this great and grounded school.
Oakham aims to provide an education for children that not only acts as a preparation for life after school, but also recognises that these years are precious and should be joyful, memorable and transformative.
The School combines its exceptional pastoral care with academic excellence and outstanding co-curricular opportunities, underpinned by its core values, to enable children to flourish at school and long into the future.
The Boarding Houses provide a true home-from-home family environment to the School’s 500-strong boarding community. Children travel from the local area, from further afield in the UK, and overseas to benefit from all the opportunities on offer during the week and at the weekend.
Oakham’s unique House structure ensures students have an age-appropriate space to develop and grow, surrounded by staff who are expertly trained both to support them and challenge them to become independent, thoughtful and responsible adults.
By looking after your children and teaching them to know how to look after themselves, the School will help them on their journey to become adults who are ambitious, confident, aspirational, and courageous, but who have their feet firmly on the ground.
