Malvern St James Girls’ School (MSJ) is a leading independent day and boarding school for girls aged 3 – 18, situated in the picturesque town of Malvern, Worcestershire. Here, pupils are inspired to explore who they are, be ambitious, free thinking and resilient, with individual interests and passions put at the heart of learning.
“Malvern St James Girls’ School is a truly exceptional place for living and learning, inspired by the talents and energy of its girls and staff. I am proud to be surrounded by girls with such poise. From the youngest to the oldest, they are interested and engaged with the world around them, and able to hold their own socially and intellectually.
In an age of fierce job competition, the careers landscape evolving like never before, and still a minority of women in leadership roles, young women can be forgiven for feeling unconfident or boxed-in about what they do next. At Malvern St James, we set out to untangle all of this. With superb value-added attainment, outstanding public examination results and a focus on giving our girls the soft skills they will need at university and in the work place, we are here to help them navigate their way with a support network of superb teaching and House staff, and first-class pastoral care.”
At MSJ we achieve excellent GCSE and A Level results, driven by inspirational teaching which focuses on the individual and encourages girls to be ambitious, confident and to follow their passions. Here, everything is totally geared for girls; there are no barriers or gender stereotyping. Pupils can pursue their passions and interests in the field of their choice – it may be medicine, engineering, politics, sports or the expressive arts. All routes are equal. The diverse list of graduate courses at the most prestigious universities which follow are testament to MSJ’s culture of ambition and achievement. Not only are pupils challenged academically, they have the opportunity to explore over 100 extra-curricular activities and over 300 sports fixtures annually, to find what inspires them.
“Both girls now view MSJ as their home. As we are inevitably about to be assigned somewhere new again, for us with wider family support nearby, it really completes the package.” MSJ Forces’ Parent
With around 400 pupils, we are large enough to offer a huge breadth of curriculum across STEM, The Expressive Arts, Humanities, and Sports, whilst at the same time are able to get to know each pupil individually to help ensure they progress and achieve to their maximum potential. We have an above average number of pupils who continue to take Science and Mathematics subjects from GCSE to A Level and over 50% of Year 13 leavers will move onto a STEM orientated degree at the most competitive universities. As a Trinity Champion Centre for The Arts, appointed by Trinity College London, our teaching and learning provision across the disciplines of Art, Music and Drama is superb and is supported by many opportunities throughout the academic year to perform.
From Prep through to Sixth Form, pupils are encouraged to take on leadership opportunities as Form Captains, Subject Ambassadors, Prefects and the Head Girl team. Younger girls see older pupils as leaders and mentors and this creates a ‘can-do’ attitude to learning and aiming high. Supported by award winning pastoral care, boarding and day pupils can thrive in a safe and nurturing environment which puts each individual at its heart.
