The creative spirit of Dragon School is embodied in a lockdown project involving over 100 members of the school’s community. The Music department coordinated a virtual recording and film of ‘Reach for the Sun’ demonstrating what can be achieved through collaboration, enthusiasm and modern technology.
It was fantastic to be able to count among the participants:
William Morris, Director of Music, is delighted with the recording:
‘Music is a thriving department at the Dragon and we typically run 60 music groups each week. The sudden closure of the School due to the pandemic did not mean that children stopped making music. 700 individual instrumental lessons have been delivered each week remotely and it has been wonderful to see the community project embraced by the children and their families.’
The Dragon School is a co-educational Day and Boarding Prep School for 4-13 year olds in the University City of Oxford. ‘The Dragon’s reputation as a School where every child can find, explore and develop their talents has been well earned over many generations.’ – Dr Crispin Hyde-Dunn, Headmaster.
During lockdown, the School successfully ran a Virtual Holistic Curriculum for its pupils in the UK and overseas with a balanced approach that took into account academic progress, wellbeing and the importance of community. The Dragon was able to welcome all year groups back to School for valuable time together with friends and teachers before the end of term whilst keeping boarders involved through virtual lessons and assemblies and live-streamed prize-givings.
