Dragon 2020 Highlights

Posted: 3rd March 2021

The Dragon is one of the leading Prep schools in the UK educating boys and girls from 4-13 years old. The School has increased the flexibility of its boarding options to meet the needs of modern families. Ten family-style boarding houses run by dedicated Houseparents surround the School in leafy North Oxford. Families can choose full or weekly boarding with many day pupils also spending regular nights as day boarders. The School has introduced a new weekly London Bus taking boarders back to School on Sunday evenings and there is a return service for exeats and half term.

Beyond the school day there is a wide variety of Clubs or the children can simply relax with friends before supervised Prep, supper and House activities. Weekends are busy and varied; with Friday evening visiting speakers and events, the newly-launched Dragon QUEST enrichment curriculum and Upper School sport fixtures on Saturdays and a programme of activities and excursions on Sundays. A boarding experience helps children to grow in confidence as they develop a sense of responsibility and respect for others and boarding at this age is a fantastic preparation for those going on to Senior Boarding Schools.

This year, Years 4 and 5 have immersed themselves in Dragon QUESTon Saturday mornings and this extends to the whole Prep School from September 2021. Children can choose from activities as diverse as cultural outings in Oxford, bike mechanics, visits to a working farm, paddle boarding and calligraphy. Dragon teachers lead many of the activities and enjoy sharing their passions beyond the classroom. Behind QUESTis the aim to develop young Dragons holistically so that they ‘Discover new interests, Develop new skills and Dare to do something new’.
