Following the resounding success of our sell-out-show laurel winning production of ROCKBETH (Shakespeare’s Macbeth set to rock music) at EdFringe 2023, the Performing Arts department swapped out the skulls and leather for flares and disco balls… and Twelfth Night Fever was born!
Our 2024 drama production was a fresh take on Shakespeare’s gender-bending comedy Twelfth Night, set to a disco soundtrack and performed with singing and dancing by an all-male cast in Years 9 to Upper Sixth.
The show first ran at school for three nights in February and had its audiences on their feet, dancing the night away! The Headmaster, Mr Hetherington, came to opening night and remarked ‘I was amazed at some of the performances, and full of admiration for the cast, crew, band and all. There is something incredible about the dramatic change in some of our boys when they are on the stage’.
The group then played to a packed-out audience at Haslemere Hall in July. They stepped out onto a bigger stage and excelled.
During a week’s tour in August, Twelfth Night Fever gripped EdFringe 2024. Every day, pupils donned their costumes and make-up ready to walk The Royal Mile, promoting the show to the public. The social confidence, positivity and enthusiasm shown by every member of the team grew throughout the week, resulting in extra energy and presence on stage. They represented the school with unwavering gusto and pride.
This incredible opportunity would not have been possible without the support of our community of staff, pupils, families and Alumni – some of whom even made the trip to Scotland to help with lighting and sound, promoting tickets sales and being an enthusiastic audience member during the main shows.
This was truly an experience to remember!
