Taunton School expands nursery and pre-preparatory school offering

Posted: 23rd July 2024

Taunton School’s nursery and pre-preparatory school is set to receive various updates as part of the wider campus development masterplan.

Works have begun in the nursery’s playground, library, and main entrance, and a second baby room is being added with all developments due to be completed in time for the new school year in September.

Becky Lewis, Head of Taunton Pre-Preparatory School and Nursery, said: “We are so excited about all the developments happening. Our Pre-prep School Council have done a wonderful job of helping to design the new library and choosing playground equipment as voted for by their peers.

“The expansion of the pre-prep and nursery begins an exciting new chapter here at Taunton School, enabling us to give more children the very best start in a beautiful, nurturing environment.”

The pre-preparatory school and nursery’s playground will see a major overhaul with the help of an external playground specialist, Pentagon Play. The company has offered their expertise and experience to design and develop a bigger and more exciting playground for the children to enjoy with the five-week installation beginning earlier this month.

Internally, the library has been renovated, including installing new woodland-themed furniture, wall art of well-known book characters, and ensuring it is a safe and comforting place to be.

The pre-preparatory and nursery building’s spacious main entrance will be re-designed into a hall which will be used for assemblies, ballet lessons, and other activities. Its current plain white walls and vast windows will be decorated with a farmyard scene to liven up the space and make it fun and engaging for pupils.

The new developments will ultimately lead to a larger and improved provision, enabling the pre-preparatory school and nursery to accommodate more children in enhanced facilities.

These works form part of the wider campus masterplan which was unveiled just over two years ago, which saw the development of the modern Sixth Form centre, new senior school library, and renovated dining hall. The most recent project has been the building of two new purpose-built AstroTurf pitches which will be opened this month and will improve the hockey provision, allowing Taunton School to host national competitions.

Taunton Pre-Preparatory School and Nursery is situated on the school’s main campus and caters for children from six months old, offering wraparound care for 50 weeks of the year. The nursery is split into four year groups to allow children of each age and development stage to receive the individual care and level of teaching that they require from the school’s qualified and dedicated staff members. Children are then able to seamlessly move up to Taunton Pre-Preparatory School for Reception, Year 1 and Year 2.
