Posted: 13th April 2016

The Fencing Club at Packwood Haugh School in Shropshire has gone from strength to strength since it was set up 10 years ago. In addition to its four recent team and individual national titles, the school was delighted to receive news of an international cap – the fourth in the club’s history. The club’s current top young fencer and team captain, Oliver Holcroft, has been selected for the Under-13 England team and a first international competition in Poland. Head of Fencing at Packwood, Nick Weston, said: ‘Oliver’s consistent performances in competitions throughout 2015 – including winning the national Under-13 Team title with his Packwood teammates and scooping a bronze medal at the GB individual championships in Sheffield – have earnt him a national call-up.’ Oliver follows in the footsteps of Packwood’s first fencing international, Keishi Oyama, who left the school in 2009 and was part of the Japanese team that won Gold at the 2015 Asian Games; 2013 leaver, James Hinwood, who is in the Under-15 England team; and last year’s captain, Edward Don, who represents Wales.
